“The Ouija’s Omen” from The Unexpected #191 (June 1979)
In which Steve Bissette brings a little gory unlife into the sorry state of Bronze Age “thriller” comics.

“Strop! You’re Killing Me!” from Tales from the Crypt #37 (September 1953)
There are plenty of better EC horror tales than this oh-so-familiar story of a murderous shitheel who gets his ghoulish just desserts, but this one is my all-time favorite by virtue of being my earliest exposure to the publisher’s particular brand of four-color gross-outs.
Bill Elder’s art also deserves a mention, as his understated (compared to Wood’s, Ingels’s, or Davis’s) style contrasted beautifully with the final panel’s nasty, shudder-inducing payoff.
